synopsis |
Jia Zhang-Ke gives us to see the painter Liu Xiadong working on his oil painting series “Hot Bed”. His first painting work is set up in the Three Gorges area in the old Chinese city of Fengjie where a huge dam and hydroelectric power station is undertaken for four decades. The whole city will be then submerged under the water. Eleven local deconstruction workers became the models on his live sketch. A second painting is created in Bangkok, the burning hot capital, where this time he invited eleven bar girls as models whom feel progressively drowsier and limper under the heat. A second life is given to those bodies through the representation of each both great visual artists. |
