2008.08.10 Memento picked up a new film: TREELESS MOUNTAIN, by So-Yong Kim

Jin, a bright-eyed six-year-old, lives with her mother and little sister, Bin, in a cramped apartment in Seoul. When their mother decides to go look for their estranged father, Jin and Bin are forced to stay with their aunt in a small town for the summer. But after their aunt loses her house, the girls flee to the country into the farm owned by their grandparents. It is through this journey of abandonment that the two sisters come together and learn the importance of family bonds.

TREELESS MOUNTAIN is So-Yong Kim’s second feature film. The script received support from the Cannes L’Atelier Program, the Sundance Institute’s Writers and Directors Labs, and the Pusan Promotional Program.

Kim’s first feature, IN BETWEEN DAYS, was acclaimed by critics and won the Special Jury Prize at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival along with the International Critics’ Prize at Berlin. It was also awarded an LA Critics Prize and Best Film and Best Actress Prizes at Buenos Aires.

In 2006, Kim was featured as one of the “25 Filmmakers to Watch” in Filmmaker Magazine.

2008.02.05 MEMENTO FILMS INTERNATIONAL adds WENDY AND LUCY to its Cannes slate

Memento Films International has added Kelly Reichardt's WENDY AND LUCY as the fourth title in its sales lineup for the upcoming Cannes Film Festival.

The film will have its world premiere at Un Certain Regard.

WENDY AND LUCY stars Academy Award nominee Michelle Williams, and Will Patton. In the film, Wendy is driving to Ketchikan, Alaska, in hopes of a summer of lucrative work at the Northwestern Fish cannery, and the start of a new life with her dog, Lucy. When her car breaks down in Oregon, however, the thin fabric of her financial situation comes apart, and she confronts a series of increasingly dire economic decisions, with far-ranging repercussions for herself and her dog. In stark, luminous terms, WENDY AND LUCY addresses issues of sympathy and generosity at the edges of American life, revealing the limits and depths of people's duty to each other in tough times.

Reichardt garnered stellar reviews with her previous film, OLD JOY, which premiered at Sundance in 2006 and won the Tiger Award for Best Film at the Rotterdam Film Festival.

WENDY AND LUCY was produced by Neil Kopp, Anish Savjani of filmscience and Larry Fessenden of Glass Eye Pix.
